Course Time: Morning, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
Number of Sessions: 12
Venue: Oakham Enterprise Park

Who is it for?

This course is for adults aged 19+ who are in the early stages of their pottery journey. This could be complete novices wanting to try pottery for the first time, people who have briefly tried pottery before (either at RACL or elsewhere), those seeking a mindful and creative experience or those looking for a new pathway in life or career change.

What will I learn?

In this course you will develop the basic hand-building skills required to make simple pots. You will then learn about and use glazes and other media to decorate your pots, and explore the making, drying and firing processes of pottery. You will also be able to try your hand at throwing on the wheel (please note we only have 2 wheels, therefore this will be facilitated, when possible, throughout the duration of the course).

What could I do after this?

If you are a complete beginner, you could remain in this class for one more term as a ‘Beginner Plus’ before moving up to our Intermediate Pottery courses.

If you are already a ‘Beginner Plus’, you could progress onto our Intermediate Pottery courses on Wednesday afternoons or Thursday evenings and complete up to 3 terms with either tutor.

You could also seek alternative Pottery courses with other providers, or try another creative course at RACL.

Your tutor can help advise and guide you towards further courses or study elsewhere to enhance your creative practice. RACL also creates opportunities for learners to exhibit and sell their work. Some learners go on to sell and exhibit their pottery outside of RACL.

If you are a new learner, once you have reserved a place on Pottery for Beginners, you will be sent a link to our short online initial assessment survey. This must be completed before your enrolment can progress.
