Who is it for?

This beginners course is for adults aged 19+ who want to develop their drawing skills and learn or improve their understanding of the basics of watercolour painting.


What will I learn?

This course will include short, fun exercises covering watercolour painting techniques and approaches to observational drawing, and information will be given about materials, equipment and how to research ideas for paintings.

You’ll learn how:

  • Mix & apply watercolour washes
  • Understand and apply tonal values
  • Identify positive & negative shapes in drawing and painting
  • Create simple composition

What could I do after this?

You could continue to develop your skills by joining a more advanced course, such as RACL’s mixed-level Drawing and Painting course or a specialist watercolour painting or drawing class offered by other providers e.g. GoLearn! or the WEA. You could also improve your skills by attending courses focusing on a specific genre of painting & drawing e.g. Landscape, Still life, Botanicals etc.
