Who is it for?
This course is for adults aged 19+ who have previous pottery experience and a good understanding of basic pottery making techniques (pinching, slab-building and moulding, coil building, glazing, simple sculpture and basic throwing on the wheel). It is aimed at those who want to improve or further develop their knowledge and challenge themselves whilst following a theme set by the tutor. You will be asked to take a short initial assessment prior to enrolling to confirm this course is right for you.
What will I learn?
You’ll be encouraged to be ambitious with your response to a theme defined by the tutor, including doing your own research, developing a plan, designs and reviewing your work. The theme changes every term. There will also be opportunity for you to improve and develop your throwing and turning on the wheel (limited to two learners at a time), and you will produce at least one piece of work which has stretched your skills.
You’ll learn how to:
- Design, make and decorate functional/decorative ceramic pieces following a defined theme;
- Apply specific decorative techniques and when to apply them;
- Further develop your hand-building and/or throwing skills;
- Use tutor feedback, peer support and self-reflection to improve outcomes
