Who is it for?
This course is for adults aged 19+ who’ve learnt pottery before and have experience and a good understanding of basic hand-building skills (i.e. coil building, slab building, thumb pots, using slum and hump moulds). It is for people who want to enhance existing knowledge and tackle more challenging builds and techniques. You will be asked to complete an initial assessment before enrolling so we can check this course is right for you.
What will I learn?
In this course you will work within a theme set and guided by the tutor. The themes will change with each new course/term to ensure variety and offer a breadth of skills.
You will be introduced to a topic, with visual examples and demonstrations where appropriate. You may need to spend time thinking about, researching and designing your ceramics outcomes.
You’ll learn how to:
- Refine & improve your hand-building techniques
- Attempt more challenging builds
- Experiment with decoration
- Utilise research to develop your ideas
- Solve your own problems
- Personalise your work
What could I do after this?
You could re-enrol for up to two more terms of our Intermediate Pottery courses on Wednesday afternoons or Thursday evenings with either tutor. The focus/theme changes each term/course.
You could also seek alternative Pottery courses with other providers, or try another creative course at RACL.
Your tutor can help advise and guide you towards further courses or study elsewhere to enhance your creative practice. RACL also creates opportunities for learners to exhibit and sell their work. Some learners go on to sell and exhibit their pottery outside of RACL.
