Who is it for?

This course is for adults aged 19+ who have a smartphone or tablet and want to learn how to use it more effectively. It is aimed at people who have beginner-level knowledge.


About the course

This is a bring-your-own device course where you will learn about and practice with your own smartphone or tablet. You’ll learn how to:

  • Use the features of your device, including the touchscreen and camera
  • Understand the security features of your device and how to set them up
  • Connect to Wi-Fi and use your device to access the internet
  • Find, install, set up, and use apps that will improve your efficiency (e.g. banking), provide entertainment (e.g. games or streaming) or otherwise support your goals (e.g. fitness)
  • Use your device to communicate with friends and family via messaging, voice or video

What could I do after this?

You could continue to develop your digital skills and confidence with our “Introduction to Personal Computers”, “Introduction to Microsoft Word” or “Introduction to Excel” courses and from there undertake a Digital Functional Skills qualification. You can also use your newly-gained skills to engage with the digital world, stay in touch with friends and family, discover new facts and more.
