Who is it for?

This course is aimed at adults aged 19+ whose Italian skills are equivalent to the start of the A2 level. Learners joining this course will have a knowledge of the present and past tense, including some reflexive and irregular verbs, direct and indirect object pronouns and basic structures of the language. They will know how to communicate in basic touristic situations (hotels, restaurants, etc..) and have some basic conversations about holidays, family, routine and free time.

What will I learn?

This course will teach you how to use a range of topics and expressions whilst acquiring a deeper understanding of the structure of the language. Previous grammar knowledge will be consolidated and new elements will be introduced and put into practice. Speaking, listening, reading and writing will be further developed, with emphasis on natural conversational skills and elements of the Italian culture. Content includes:

• How to recognise and conjugate the imperfect tense
• Talking about childhood and past memories
• Recognising and starting to use direct and indirect pronouns
• Recalling the “passato prossimo” and starting to use it with the “imperfetto” tense
• Actively listening to a piece of A1-A2 and repeating what was said
• Recognising and embracing cultural differences through videos, readings and conversations
• How to interpret new idiomatic expressions
• Producing a piece of A2 beginners writing

What could I do after this?

Your newly-gained skills will help you to communicate in Italian at home or abroad. You could also continue to develop your skills by attending further Italian courses with RACL. This course will move up the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), and the next level after A2 is B1. Alternatively, you could seek Italian courses with other local providers, such as GoLearn! (Leicestershire), Leicester Adult Education, Leicester College, 2aspire (Lincolnshire) or WEA.
