Who is it for?

This course is for adults aged 19+ who have some digital skills – e.g. can use a computer, laptop, smartphone or tablet, browse the internet, and send and receive emails or messages – and would like to improve their awareness of how to stay safe online.

What will I learn?

Scammers are using increasingly sophisticated methods to target people online, through emails, text messages, social media, websites and phone calls. This practical one-day workshop will help you build confidence in recognising common scams, protecting your personal information, and staying safe when using digital technology.

You will learn how to:

• Spot the warning signs of common online scams and frauds
• Recognise suspicious emails, text messages, websites and social media messages
• Protect your personal information, passwords and online accounts
• Check whether a website, message or request is genuine
• Understand the latest scam techniques used by criminals
• Know what to do if you think you have been targeted by a scam
• Find trusted sources of advice and support

What could I do after this?

This course will boost your ability to safely browse the internet and use digital technology when at home, at work or in the community. You could continue to develop your Digital Skills by joining further courses such as Get to Know Your Smartphone or Tablet, Introduction to Computers, Introduction to Excel, Introduction to Microsoft Word or those offered by other providers.
