Who is it for?

This course is aimed at adults aged 19+ who wish to improve their digital skills and gain a Level 1 qualification. It is suitable for people with existing digital skills e.g. those who can use the internet and emails, know about filing and folders, create basic files with word processing software etc. It is also suitable for those who have previously achieved the Entry 3 Digital Functional Skills or Essential Digital Skills qualification and wish to progress to the next level. Your skills will be assessed during the enrolment process to check the course is right for you.


What will I learn?

  • Use devices and handle information: access the internet to find reliable information; organise, save and find files; solve technological problems
  • Create and edit: use Microsoft Office word processing, presentation and spreadsheet software; edit images, process numerical data; use charts and graphs
  • Communicate: use email and online messaging for communication while knowing how to limit your online footprint
  • Transact: manage account settings; complete online forms; reduce the risks of transacting online
  • Be safe and responsible: understand your rights under data protection; know how to protect your privacy, devices and files; minimise physical and mental risks

What could I do after this?

Your new skills could be used at home or at work, whether that’s applying for jobs, entering the workforce for the first time or advancing your career.

You could also progress onto a higher-level ICT qualification or gain your Functional Skills English or Maths qualifications if you are eligible. Courses are available through RACL or other providers such as GoLearn! (Leicestershire), Leicester Adult Education, Leicester College, or WEA.
