Course Time: Evening, 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm
Number of Sessions: 5
Venue: Online

Who it’s for:

This online course is for anyone interested in creative writing who would like to work towards completing a short piece of fiction. No previous writing experience is necessary. You should be able to read and write fluently in English.

What you’ll learn:

This five-week course will focus on writing a short piece of fiction in a safe and supported space. You’ll cover a key aspect of the craft of fiction each week, and be encouraged to work step-by-step on creating, developing and refining one piece of work over this time. Each week you’ll warm up with short writing activities before going on to explore elements of a story, such as plot, character and motivation, settings and endings, and consider how to develop these in your own writing.

You will explore practical ways of gaining inspiration to write short fiction, recognise and develop your own writing skills, identify techniques used by writers, such as imagery and point of view, and apply these in your own writing to produce one sustained piece of short fiction. You will also be able to share your writing, benefitting from and contributing to group feedback, and establish your own priorities as a writer.
