Who is it for?

This course is for anyone who has an enthusiasm for Shakespeare, literature and the theatre – no experience necessary!


What will I learn?

This course will be an introduction to the plays of William Shakespeare, in which you will read texts and theatrically explore his most famous comedies: The Comedy of Errors, The Taming of the Shrew, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Much Ado About Nothing, As You Like It and Twelfth Night. You’ll look at the theatre of Shakespeare’s time, how his plays are produced and performed nowadays, and explore the enduring appeal of his work.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Read and study a play by Shakespeare
  • Explore how a play lifts off the page and is performed on the stage
  • Enjoy the numerous ways that Shakespeare creates comedy and laughter

You could continue developing your knowledge by enrolling onto other courses in literature or cultural history.
