Who it’s for:
This course is suitable for learners of all abilities and confidences.
What you’ll learn:
You will learn the skills and techniques needed to make pottery items which can be used in the home, garden or for purely decorative purposes. Skills include how to choose and prepare clay ready for a particular project, and hand-building skills such as pinching, using soft slabs and coiling.
We will study and practise a selection of decorative techniques over the course, including the use of coloured slips, underglazes and glazes, and discuss other techniques which might include impressing, stamping, drawing on clay, carving etc.
Sculpture techniques can be covered for those who would like to sculpt, and we have two portable wheels in the classroom, so there will be an opportunity to have a go at throwing a pot for those who want to.
Please be aware that there is a cost for items made – currently 60p per 100grams – to help offset the cost of clay, glazes and firing.
