Who it’s for:
Learners of all abilities who would like to develop the skills and techniques needed to make pottery items for the home and garden.
What you’ll learn:
The skills taught will be sensitive to the aspirations of individual learners, but could include hand building – e.g. coiling, slabbing, pinching, or a combination of these techniques -, sculpture techniques, and decorative techniques including the use of coloured slips, underglazes and glazes. Learners can also discuss other techniques, such as impressing, stamping, drawing on clay, carving and more
We have two portable wheels in the classroom which the group shares, so there is the opportunity for learners to have a go at throwing a pot. Beginners will be guided with demonstrations, individual and group discussions, some online study in
class and suggestions for light homework if wanted. The tutor will also advise and encourage more confident/experienced learners.
Please be aware that there is a cost for items made – currently 60p per 100grams – to help offset the cost of clay, glazes and firing. Research using books, magazines and/or internet is always encouraged, and use of a notebook/sketchbook is highly recommended on this course.
