This series of three introductory online workshops is for anyone interested in using mindfulness techniques to explore creative writing in any form. No previous writing experience is necessary. You should be able to read and write fluently in English.

Mindfulness can be described as the practice of paying attention in the present moment. It brings together ancient wisdom traditions of the East, particularly Buddhism, with modern neuroscience and psychology. Through mindfulness practice, you can reduce stress and increase focus.

Each two-hour fun and relaxing workshop will help you explore your creativity through mindfulness and writing. Mindful writing encourages you to be more aware and less self-critical, turning the writing experience into an exploration of yourself and the world around you.

We will use simple meditation and writing activities to learn how to navigate creative blocks caused by over-thinking. You’ll be encouraged to slow down and tune into your senses to develop generate creative writing ideas in a range of forms including freewriting, poetry and prose.

Each workshop will be delivered online, via Microsft Teams. The two-hour session will offer a mix of:

  • Short, fun and engaging writing exercises
  • Tutor presentations
  • Short and simple meditation practices
  • Opportunities to share your work with others – this is entirely voluntary
  • Reading and writing activities to take away
