Who is it for?

This course is for those new to, or with little experience of, using their DSLR or bridge camera who wish to gain confidence and understand the fundamental principles of photography.

What will I learn?

This course will give you a hands-on introduction to the basic principles of using a DSLR camera. You’ll learn how to control the camera, how to use the controls effectively and how they they affect the pictures you take. You’ll also learn what the technical jargon means and how to apply it practically to the pictures you take.

Learning will be via practical, hands-on use of your camera, as well as seeing and understanding simple explanations and examples.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Go beyond ‘auto’ mode
  • Control focus, shutter speed and apertures
  • Learn about the different modes and settings, what they mean and how to use them
  • Understand the technical jargon
  • Improve the pictures you take
